9th Waste

There are 8 deadly Lean (Muda) which most of us know.

      1-      Transportation

      2-      Motion

      3-      Defect

      4-      Over Production

      5-      Over Processing

      6-      Inventory

      7-      Waiting

      8-      Underutilization

Now the quality experts and six sigma consultants of various domains and countries are trying to identify what would be 9^th waste. What would that be which even Shigeo Shingo or Taaichi Ohno had not mentioned in their 7 deadly wastes.

Few Leading managers say its

      1-      Meetings are a waste (a NVA)

      2-      Appraisals are waste  (a NVA)

Few Quality Consultants says

      1-      Unused space

      2-      Complexity

      3-      Poor communication

      4-      Entropy

      5-      Lack of measurement system

      6-      Lack of Innovation/invention

Whatever it may be, ultimately if we know the actual meaning of Lean then we would be able to identify the   Lean existing in the system and use the appropriate Lean tool to eliminate it.
